Sometimes, when I’m utterly bored, or lacking a particular zest in my own love life, I look for that in others. Like in the “Missed Connections” category on Craigslist. Record and proof of that familiar, fleeting feeling towards a complete stranger. The beauty I find in so many of the entries, is that they’re not forcibly deep, or meaningful. But in their casual longing, a tone of accidental poeticism is almost palpable.
“1st and 5th. You caught my eyes on you. You: a red dress, long dark hair. I wish I had the guts to approach you there, but alas, here I am hoping for a second chance to do so. If you felt it too, let me try again. Tomorrow, same time, same place?”
A little glimpse of a love yet to happen, or one that may never be. One that was only experienced for a flash of time, but still love nonetheless.
